A wake of turkey vultures sit in a dead tree, the prickly pear cactus are blooming on the bluffs above and herons pick through the marsh grass feeding on small fish and critters.

Not too far away, cyclists, hikers and runners circle them all on the 10.5 miles of trail that is part of one of the most beautiful and diverse watersheds in Southern California: the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Ecological Reserve.
The views it offers visitors can be stunning, making it a pleasant getaway among Orange County’s urban sprawl.
In the 1960s, there were plans to develop the upper bay with homes and boat docks, dredge the marsh and re-configure the shoreline. After a lawsuit and public campaign drew attention to the ecological importance of the area, it was designated a reserve in 1975.
Additional acreage has been added over the years and today about 1.5 square miles of habitat have been preserved.
Estuaries such as The Back Bay (that’s what the locals call it), where fresh water and salt water come together with little wave action, serve several purposes for Mother Nature, and that also means visitors can enjoy everything from bird watching to paddle sports up close to its marshes.
The area is a migratory path for the Pacific Flyway, a stopping point for more than 190 species of birds.

About 1.5 years ago I moved an Air Purifier (AP) with a UV-C light from my bedroom at Elmcroft Assisted Living to a hallway at that establishment. Did that because 13 residents at that place had tested positive for COVID in quick succession. Prior to that, 4 people had died, two of whom I knew well and personally. I knew little about the capability of that GermGuardian Air Purifier. It produced UV-C light with a wavelength of 254 nm, actually 253.7 nm. UV-C light with that wavelength can cause damage to mammalian skin and eyes if exposed to the light for too long. Everyone who knows anything about UV-C knows that, so the light is placed in a metal container and screwed into the interior of the AP and room air is blown around the light. Seemed like a simple, foolproof way to eliminate ANY possible damage caused by the light on the human body. The AP has continued to run at level 5 (the Highest} 24/7. Believe I read that the air in my bedroom is recycled 5 times / hour. I was considering buying AP’s with much greater sterilizing, cleaning capacity for this place, Elmcroft, but after 5 months the “red change filter” light came on.The frequency of filter cleaning has decreased markedly since but the AP keeps chugging along.
In any event no resident or anyone at Elmcroft Senior Living has tested positive for COVID since the original 13. That includes the far superior contagian possibilities presented by the omicron variant. The AP is still going strong to protect the residents including me, right now!!!
So now I need help in determining what the actual area of coverage is provided by my little GermGaurdian AP. Just think of the ramifications if the area coverage is as great or greater than indicated by this unscientific test!!!
Forget about far UV-C for now. After verifying the results of this test, start by putting 254 nm UV-C AP’s on/in ALL trains, buses, planes, trucks etc. No hurry, we have just unnecessarily lost over 800,000 lives to COVID in the USA alone!!!! Keep the CDC happy and shoot for a million!!! After all they are just people and the virus is acting as an efficient population control mechanism.
Please wake up and recognise UV-C for the fantastic elixir it is. We should never have employed vaccines as our primary weapon to combat ANY PATHOGEN INCLUDING COVID-19!!!!! 2.5 years ago I was saying “don’t they realize that viruses morph, mutate”? Obviously not!!!! I read that far UV-C is now being considered to combat whatever in the next pandemic. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!! How many will have unnecessarily died by then – Maybe 2 million. Why are we SOOOO ignorant???????? Perhaps I should change from ignorant to greedy, which is my true belief.
Better days are a coming. I hope! There are easily comprehended and implemented solutions for all our major problems. PLEASE PUT GREED ASIDE and let a few be implemented! Greed is the root of all evil! We are presented with the opportunity of creating a wonderful world. I keep thinking of how great it will be to live in a pathogen created disease free world. UV-C makes this doable!
