Californians are the most charitable people on Earth. Government is making sure that illegal aliens, criminals that break our laws every day, have low cost auto insurance, issued by the State (the taxpayers). This is subsidized by your taxes, money meant for education will instead be used to assure law breakers get a break on insurance, when they get their phony drivers licenses, which will be used—you know they will—to allow the illegal aliens to vote—illegally.

Calif. to offer low-cost insurance to new immigrant drivers

State officials hope a new law that offers California driver’s licenses to immigrants in the country illegally will also encourage them to buy insurance.
To encourage the practice, the California Department of Insurance is aggressively marketing its Low Cost Auto Insurance program to the large pool of immigrants projected to seek licenses under the AB 60 law taking effect Jan. 1.
“It would be a tragedy if after all this effort, the 1.4 million people who are getting driver’s licenses for the first time don’t have auto insurance,” said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.
Jones and others recognized that the cost of getting licensed — $33 — is a lot cheaper than buying insurance for hundreds of dollars a year. So, Jones, working with Senator Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, got the state Legislature to open up the low-cost insurance program to the new category of immigrant drivers.
“The price will be less than $450 a year, which is less than $38 a month,” Jones said. He said that’s about a third of what it costs to get private auto insurance in many markets across California.
Jones said more than 90 percent of AB 60 applicants are expected to be Spanish speakers. So the state’s been pushing its low-cost insurance through Spanish-language media and ads like this:
Los Angeles-based insurance broker Susan Rocha said the state program likely offers the lowest prices for low-income immigrant drivers, especially since they have no official driving record.
“Any place else it’s going to be much more, because they are considered a new driver,” Rocha said.
But Rocha cautioned that the state’s low-cost program is very basic, and those who can afford more might want to join a private plan with beefier coverage. If they can jump on a relative’s plan, they may be able to enjoy loyalty discounts, Rocha said.
For years, California law has allowed immigrants in the country illegally to buy insurance even without a license. But day laborer Alfredo Vidal said he just didn’t see the point.
“Why?” said Vidal, who borrows his friend’s pick-up truck for construction gigs around L.A. “I don’t have a driver’s license.”
But going without insurance can lead to hundreds of dollars in fines, not to mention losing one’s driver’s license, and car registration. In a crash, a driver might not be able to afford thousands of dollars in repairs. Some drivers might be apt to leave the scene. And this could raise insurance costs for everybody.
Vidal was willing to accept the risks.
“I have to take people with materials to the houses,” Vidal said. “I have to be driving all the time.”
Immigrant advocates have largely avoided handing out insurance advice. Ana Garcia gives workshops on the new law for the Central American Resource Center, and said her priority is helping immigrants get their license.
“We only went over insurance when they take the driving test,” Garcia said. “I let them know that whatever car they need to use for the driving test needs to be insured.”
For his driver’s test, Vidal said he’ll borrow his friend’s car, which is already insured. If he passes and gets his license, Vidal says he’ll take all the proper next steps.
“We’re going to get insurance – everybody,” Vidal said. “We know it’s the law.”

Once again the state is control by a bunch of law breakers. They think we should bend over backwards for those that are breaking the law. We now recognize those that are breaking the law by allowing them to continue to remain here but we now allow them to travel throughout the state with a license. Then of course we can’t have uninsured people driving so we have them get insurance at our expense. Once again the Democrats lie, extort, and show their disdain for the taxpayer. When are the voters realize they are being screwed by these people.
And once again our democrat controlled state of CA has to prove to the rest of the nation that CA is the dumbest state ever. Laws mean nothing in CA. If you don’t like a law, just ignore it, and our democrats in sacramento will back you up with a dumber law. CA has no borders and no money, but the democrats keep acting like we do. I am surprised that CA is not buying cars for the illegals to go with their new drivers license. They will probably just increase their welfare and EBT to cover it.
This is illegal and should be challenged in court!
Can someone explain why my son and his Swedish wife have to go through months and many $$$ to get his wife a Green Card. She can only get a driver’s license after that while those that break our laws are being rewarded. In a country of laws it appears those that break them are rewarded and those that live by them are punished. It is indeed an upside down world.

Most People have know idea what our representatives have done to California’s public education system. The State continues to use our students to raise new tax revenues and then steals that money for other things- like new entitlements for people who are not in our country legally. If anyone would like to understand how unconstitutional the State’s new education funding law is- please take a minute to read California’s new Local Control Funding Formula – A Parents Perspective. The State is withholding $200 million dollars per year from the Capistrano Unified School District alone and no one in power seems to care that our children are attending school in overcrowded buildings that have not been maintained for years with “Average” class sizes of 34 students – meaning many classes have 40 kids per class. Parents are fundraising to pay for everything including teachers and teachers aids. Our District, because it is preceived to be a “wealthy” district, is only receiving $7,002 per student. The State’s new LCFF intentionally underfunds wealthy suburban school districts of the funding necessary to provide even a basic education to EVERY student in the District, simply because that student happens to live in a wealthy area. That is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. The continued lack of funding has resulted in a notable decline in academic performance across all demographics. So to take money from our students given the current State of our District is shameful and illegal. The California Constitution mandates that the State pay for 2 things- a Free and adequate K-12 public education system and a State militia= there should be no money for anything else until EVERY child receives adequate funding for a basic education.
Please Join me in filing a law suit in Federal Court to challenge the way California raises revenue and then spends taxpayer funds. The California Constitution gives Public Education a spending priority above all else. That means that the State must meet it’s obligation to students before tax revenue can be spent on anything else. The State’s new education funding law limits revenue to schools to 2008 levels (but does not promise to reach those levels until 2021. In 2007-08 State general fund tax revenues were $105 billion today they are $117 billion. The State uses K-12 public education to raise revenues, but then spends the money on everything but education.
