The Trump administration is starting the process of opening up large swaths of land in California to hydraulic fracturing.
In a notice issued Wednesday to the Federal Register, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said it intends to analyze the impact of hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, on publicly owned land throughout the state.
The area in question spans 400,000 acres of public land and 1.2 million acres of federal mineral estates throughout a number of California counties including Fresno, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara.
The notice of intent says BLM will begin the scoping process for a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, which will determine the effects of fracking on the environment. Fracking is a technology used to release oil and gas from land. The administration’s intent is to eventually open up public land to new lease sales.
The announcement follows a 2017 lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity. That lawsuit challenged a 2015 attempt by the federal government to finalize a resource management plan that acknowledged fracking. In its settlement, BLM promised that it would first provide an environmental impact statement before considering fracking. …
DRILL!
In the same way, this Administration must do everything and anything in Federal power to affect a change in California, ASAP.
Bring it on!
Another use for water in the production process. An average fracking well requires 3 to 8 million US gallons of water over its lifetime; How many wells will be required in California ? We have this ongoing fight for water allocation in California. Sacramento is taxing it’s natural resources to the limit………. To paraphrase Winston Churchill………We contend that for a state to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself by the handles.
Oh No’s, not fracking…..BWAHHHHHHHH!
I was a part of that business for many years. Fracking IS REALLY BAD NEWS for anyone who wants clean , usable drinking water from a well. The oil companies have enough money to last them until eternity comes so lets not continue to kill the very earth that gives us life for some POS’s to get even richer . I for one have had more than enough killing , murdering torturing and imprisoning of people so we make the oil companies more money. Screw them and not the people for once.
Anyone who still thinks that we need the gas is either delusional or simply uninformed but how would I know I only worked out there for 20 + years.
I admire our president, but I strongly disagree that fracking should even be legal. The damage to public health is easily measurable. There are better ways and we don’t need fracking.
