For nearly a dozen years now — eons by technology standards — the Hewlett-Packard computer system that handles the state’s online filing and public access to campaign disclosure forms for elected officials has hummed along without many hiccups.
OK, many have said it could be better. But it works. Or, at least, it did.
As of late Saturday, the system was still down with its second prolonged access failure in two weeks. That left a lot of journos fuming in their rumpled ink-smudged shirts, unable to access the precious records with which to shame fashionably dressed pols with articles showing how they’re beholden to monied interests.
