From Contra Costa Times:
Sometimes, one wonders what our elected officials are thinking.
See no evil: In Oakley, there’s newfound interest in city government after my September column about City Manager Bryan Montgomery’s $366,500 taxpayer-funded bonus that was part of a deal rescuing him from an underwater mortgage. After public backlash, the council and Montgomery rescinded the agreement.
But the under-the-radar maneuver left residents questioning why council meetings are not on the Internet like in most cities. After all, every council meeting is audio- and video-recorded. The audio is excellent. The video is adequate, and a lot better than nothing, which is what’s available today.
