The House Judiciary Committee has almost wrapped up what has been a marathon debate over the Stop Online Piracy Act, the anti-piracy bill that has largely pitted Hollywood against Silicon Valley.
Almost 12 hours after the markup of the bill began, House Judiciary Committee chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) was poised to adjourn for the evening, with a promise to return tomorrow.
It’s been a contentious and at times mind-numbing day, as opponents sought to introduce amendments to the legislation they say would buffer the legislation against government overreach. Some 25 amendments were introduced, but most were turned down or withdrawn. Dozens more are expected when the committee convenes again tomorrow.
