Worker's Comp and Litigation costs up 14 percent for year for L.A. County

Los Angeles County got hit with a double financial whammy this week with the release of separate reports that detailed spiraling costs for workers’ compensation and litigation.

For the first time, the county’s workers’ comp payments topped an average of more than $1 million a day during fiscal year 2010-2011, with total cost of $374 million, according to the Chief Executive Office’s Risk Management Annual Report.

Meanwhile, litigation costs rose by 14 percent, reaching $107 million for settlements, judgments and attorney fees, according to the County Counsel’s Annual Litigation Cost Report.
