From Riverside Press-Enterprise:
Riverside voters do not need the city tilting the electoral scales at taxpayer expense. Riverside should not be spending taxpayers’ money on what looks like a campaign flier supporting a local ballot measure. Public agencies should stick to providing unbiased background information, and avoid turning that exercise into political advocacy.
Many Riverside residents received a glossy mailer from the city last month about Measure A. That measure asks voters to authorize the continued transfer of 11.5 percent of water revenue — about $6.7 million next fiscal year — from the city’s water system into the roughly $221 million general fund. Riverside spent nearly $24,000 in general fund money to produce and send the mailer to more than 115,000 households.
