L.A. County Considers Plans to Alleviate Gender Inequality

Isn’t it great—government can solve the ills of the world by creating a commission, passing laws and forcing changes in attitudes and businesses?

Read carefully, if you are a man, you will be discriminated.  If you are a man, you are not wanted in LA County, as a worker.  Pass through, be a tourist, no problem.  Want a job?  You go to the back of the line and the company will have to prove the need to hire a man instead of a women, which is where this is headed.

“The motion calls for the county to “apply a gender lens” when participating with other entities in consortiums, agreements, grants, contracts, partnerships and cross-jurisdictional work; acting as an employer and as a provider of services.

The motion asks all 37 county departments to examine their policies and procedures in order to understand where they may inadvertently be failing to take into consideration the unique needs of women and girls.

The motion also calls for a countywide study of the ways women and girls are affected by county policies, programs and services and other actions the county undertakes, and for the creation of a governing council for the initiative, with each of the five supervisors appointing three members.

Love discrimination and bigotry—you will love Los Angeles County.

County Considers Plans to Alleviate Gender Inequality

The LA County Board of Supervisors looks to create a 5-year County Initiative on Women and Girls aimed at reducing gender inequality.

By SoCal Patch, 12/13/16

LOS ANGELES, CA — A motion to create a five-year County Initiative on Women and Girls is expected to be approved Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The motion co-authored by Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Hilda Solis calls for county government to identify areas where changes in policies, services and advocacy can help alleviate the disadvantages and burdens faced by women and girls.

The motion calls for the county to “apply a gender lens” when participating with other entities in consortiums, agreements, grants, contracts, partnerships and cross-jurisdictional work; acting as an employer and as a provider of services.

While acknowledging such positive trends as the growing numbers of women graduating from high school and attending college, the motion notes that women and girls in Los Angeles County experience poverty at a higher rate than in the rest of the nation.
