BIG STORY:

Be careful.  The newspaper headlines read that SB 50—the effort to take away zoning and permitting rights from cities and give it to Sacramento was defeated on Wednesday.  In Sacramento NOTHING dies.  The Senate allowed the bill to be reconsidered.    We need to keep the pressure on.

Then, Sen. Weiner has announced that if the bill is killed, no problem.  He will reintroduce it in a few short weeks—to be heard and voted on again before September.  This is a bill that ends the rights of cities to protect the community.  Think Sacramento has your best interests?  Keep the pressure on to put a stake in the heart of this legislation.  Save your City

The $26 billion school bond–$15 billion to education and $11 billion to Wall Street, it also doubles the debt limits for school districts, mandates a PLA and more.  So far the California Republican party has not taken a stand.
  2. On Wednesday President Trump signed the new Mexico/Canada trade agreement, to replace the failed NAFTA.  Representing California at the signing in the White House was State Senator Shannon Grove.
  3. OMAR NAVARRO UPDATE:  So this week, Omar appeared again before the judge on this case. Bear in mind he is in jail and has been since Dec 12th. He spent Christmas, new years and his 31st birthday locked up.

His next appearance before the judge will be Feb 10th at 9:00am. These are pre-trial hearings, not discussions for release on bail. He is still being held with no bail. Things are moving forward to trial.

He is still running for Congress against Maxine Waters.

  •  Is Sanders a Russian asset?  This is from twitter—and you can see Bernie Sanders on his honeymoon in 1988, in Moscow, singing, shirtless, “This Land is Your Land, this land is mine land”.  What is his relationship to the Russian government?  See his singing here—toward the end the camera focuses on Sanders.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1089879769477459975
  • February 4, at 6:00pm, President Trump is to present the State of the Union speech to Congress. This is a great opportunity to bring together Trump supporters, people new to politics and to expand our base of supporters.  The California Political News and View is promoting WATCH PARTIES.  If you want to know how to do it or need other help, please call me at 805-795-1271.

(Periodically the California Political News and Views will publish tidbits of political news, to keep you in the loop of what the pooh bahs know.  The phrase “tom/tom’s” comes from my mentor, Lorelei Kinder who never passed a rumor, just called to tell me what she heard on the “Tom/Tom’s”.  This column is named in her honor.)
