California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday he is eyeing a possible special election for the first Tuesday of November, as he and state lawmakers look to redraw congressional maps to send more Democrats to Washington, D.C., and counteract Texas redistricting.

Newsom shared the possible timeline when asked about it by KCRA 3’s Capitol Correspondent Ashley Zavala during a press conference about new wildfire fighting helicopters.
California voters would be asked to change the redistricting process, for congressional maps only, for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections, under this scenario. Then the power to draw the maps would be returned to an independent redistricting commission.
Newsom again characterized the move as in response to President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “trying to rig the election” for the midterms.
Texas’ Republican-led Legislature is moving to redraw its congressional districts to gain five seats in the U.S. House of Representatives for the GOP, which has a slim majority.
“If the American people are given a fair chance and a voice and a choice, we will take back Congress,“ Newsom said.
California lawmakers last drew Congressional maps more than two decades ago. Voters took the power away from them in 2008 and gave it to an independent, citizen-led redistricting commission.
Newsom said the process he envisions would “unfold in a way where maps will be made available in a transparent way.”
Earlier this week, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said he believed he could defend California’s effort in court as the state’s top law enforcement official.
The answer is clear and devoid of political influence.

Clean all voter roles of illegals and green cards.
Limit voting to citizens. Make sure counting for House Representation is only based upon citizen. That way there is no issue of, as Democrats are openly stating, open borders is almost 100% about changing the House of Representative apportionment in favor of the Democrats.
But you see Slick Newsom and the rest of the Democrats in Sac. have no interest in fair elections. Why else would they not clear the voting rolls of dead, illegals, and criminals?
Now that makes your voting for Democrats very questionable.
He won’t get rid of the illegals nor will he rid the roles of green card holders AND HE WILL NEVER NEVER agree to voter ID!!! WHY??? Cause then HE and his crooked cronies would be out of their jobs AND maybe forced to work for a living, IF they haven’t stolen enough from us already!!!!!

If you haven’t read Kurt Schlichter’s “The Second Civil War”, I urge you to do so. California already holds a supermajority of the entire legislature, so the only reason to try to get rid of ALL of the conservative legislators is to ensure the opposite of free and fair elections: that no conservative will win any seat in this State ever again. And if the liberal voters here agree to redistricting in this State, it is one step of making “The Second Civil War” come true. Sadly, liberal voters never read anything they don’t agree with so they never know what the long-range impact of their choices is going to be. It is already true that Democrats will do ANYTHING to win elections.
Should we be talking about two Californias again? Not North and South, but East and West – leaving the liberals to the coastal counties and Sacramento, and the conservatives get the interior counties.
That’s what their doing in Texas, trying to stack the deck. I don’t see anyone here saying sh!t about that. Repubs are always crying about how the dems cheat but when the shoe is on the other foot, crickets.
